A MODERN, MULTIPURPOSE GARDEN
Brief: design, plant and maintain
My own garden. When we moved in, the garden of 40 meters long by 12 meters wide was a very plain runway of lawn which ended rather dismally in a bramble patch, I was very excited! Thinking, planning and evolving a design where I have been able to try out ideas and rehash them when time and money allowed.
After living with the garden for a year, taking note of sunny spots and watching how the existing established plants worked together, I devised a design which would take some years to action in its entirety. We have now finally finished the original plan, which includes a large patio for outdoors dining with friends, a fruit and vegetable patch complete with raised beds and a compost heap, a secluded patio and an outdoor courtyard for my husband’s love of tropical plants.
Before and after
We had this courtyard laid by a professional landscaping team, Reds Landscaping (Camberley). In the space of one week the scruffy tarmac covered yard had been transformed into a smart useable space with elegant steps which frame the view down the length of the garden
Courtyard Garden
The addition of a small secluded patio using reclaimed York stone created a wonderful oasis of peaceful serenity, the perfect spot to enjoy a drink at the end of the day
Secluded patio
The length of the garden allowed for a dedicated area given over to a kitchen garden. Raised beds and fruit trees are not only practical, but also give the space an attractive yet productive quality.
